the chemical brothers were the group that made me realize that there was more to electronic music than just cheesy dance crap...

then i happened to catch aphex twin's 'come to daddy' video on tv in the fall of 98 and well... that was pretty much that

Well no pretensions here......ecstacy, marijuana, LSD, psylocibic mushrooms all changed my life in so many ways...combined with an engineering degree and the opinion that bands are limited by the number of members and their equipment.

you really can do so much more with electronica....on your own....so no falling out over personal tastes, no need to be a proficient musician (but it helps!!!) and the relative anonymity of the artists all appeal to me

It's not dead, but it sure is tired. It's hard to believe it still does so well.

Well, two things really. I'd always been a huge fan of '70s progressive/experimental rock, which influenced modern electronic music in a huge way. The electronic experiments of "Kraut Rock" and Industrial music made me aware of electronic techniques in music, but it was really the film "Pi" and its soundtrack that made me conscious of IDM and modern experimental electronic music. So I've really only been into it as a seperate genre for 5 years, but have been listening to its influences and related forms for much longer...
