Arrow Electric Novice

I don't listen to too much electronic stuff, but I listen to The Faint and stuff. I'm not sure if that's considered electronic, but what do you think I should listen to? What is some good stuff for a beginner like me?

What kind of mood are you looking for? Angry, peaceful, smooth, gritty etc?

Good question.......I'm an electronic newbie, too. Would love to get some advice on what's worth listening to.

Some electronic stuff is more accessible than others. I'd recommend pehaps getting 3 or 4 different styles/moods of album and take it from there. It depends though on if you like to dance or listen.

Boards of Canada - Geoggadi/ Music has the right to Children. ----Ambient hip-hop influenced which will most certainly remind you of your childhood in some way. There isn't much like this

Photek - Modus operandi -- made in 1997 this Drum and bass producer displays awesome attention to detail in his drum programming. The elements are simple, but the effect is sublime

Aphex Twin- Drukqs--- An eclectic mix of styles, some perhaps too much, this prodigy of electronica has influenced a whole new generation. This double album will keep you entertained

Nightmares on Wax -- Smoker's delight-- i've never met anyone who dislikes this. Trip hop ambience. Buy it and you'll see what i mean

Leftfield--Leftism-- This album marked a new generation of music production. There are some great tracks on here, some Dub, some house, sme techno

I'd also heavily recommend www.bleep.com. You can buy high quality mp3 of many of the above artists tracks for 99p (60 cents). Before you even do that, you can listen to a sample. This is where I buy a lot of my music from

Welcome to Electronica

I say do your own research. Start with some pretty diverse albums until you know what you like, so here's some stepping stones:

Soundtrack [Run Lola Run]
Soundtrack [Wipeout XL]
Soundtrack [Hackers]
Bush [Deconstructed]
Björk [Telegram]

I forgot to mention that I really enjoy The Postal Service. They're incredible.

A quick way to sample a lot of styles would be to download iTunes and browse through the electronic section of the music store.

i say jump into Autechre. i don't care how isolated it might be for you right now. if you don't like it, then electronic music is not for your taste.

That last post was a load of BS and you know it! Autechre is beyond overrated on this message board.
