My husband and I have pretty similar tastes. He prefers classic rock - which I love - and I prefer more alternative stuff - which he likes a lot too.
We both like most forms of music but generally can't stand country or rap. Of course there are exceptions to every rule. Being radio types, we both hate pop 40.

In general, people judge other's tastes based on their own perspectives, so yes, it does matter if they are simiar to yours...but you are correct about certain people having horrible musical tastes, chris...(( I too will refrain from "naming names" ))...

My boyfriend listens to hip hop, which is definately not my taste but to each his own right? And he always makes an effort to listen to my music to see what I'm always talking about. Sometimes he likes it, and sometimes he doesn't... but it always makes for great conversation

right...
but yure saying you cant be objective at all and see someone else's taste in music thats not right in line with yours as being as "excellent" as your own?[ha] idont listen to jazz but ican respect it and ican respect fans of it. the same goes for other genres such as classical, world/native, blues and country to a fair extent. there are also sections or niches within rock and pop that are not necessarily my cup of tea but if it were for someone else iwould not immeadiately denounce or dismiss their tastes as "horrible".
seby, you always try to lecture me on being unlearned and narrow-minded. idont pretend to be any kind of musical scholar as you portray yourself as at times- iknow what ilike and itend to believe that what ilike is not shite. idont expect everyone else to hav the exact same tastes/opinions as me [they never do and iprobably wouldnt like it if they did], ijuste enjoy sharing my views. you [and others here] often seem to think that when ido share my views im somehow trying to tell others what to think, which is a complete distortion and couldnt be farther from the truth.
now, you dont seem to overly attempt in telling people what to think either [though you hav tried with me on occasion], but by this thread and your comments within you do seem to believe that any opinions differing from your own are somehow inferior [declining ona scale from 'good but not perfect' to 'horribly wrong']. idont care how much more you know than me about music, but this appears to be quite narrow-minded.

I'm too tired to bother responding to your first two paragraphs, but I think you're reading waaay too much into this thread!
I didn't intend for it to reflect some sort of divine judgement on our parts over the things our spouses/significant other's enjoy listening to, it was just meant to be a lighthearted survey of what the RM community thinks of the afforementioned's tastes. No big deal. Sorry if you don't like the way I phrased the poll options, but it wasn't meant to offend anyone. I think that everyone here can comment one way or other on the musical tastes of their partners, ignoring the "excellent, good, bad, etc" descriptions and just voting whether or not they're similar to their own...
...again, this thread wasn't meant to be taken this seriously!

My girlfriend and I have been borrowing eachother's cds quite a bit lately. I am now listening to most of the goth rock (and music related to it) she listens too. She is also liking the music I have recommended her especially:
Interpol
Bathory
and most importantly - CONVERGE!
among others. I think we are currently somewhere between C and B.

C ( acceptable ) -- he/she enjoys some of the music you like
My babe likes music she can dance to, she like hard rock, hiphop, electronica. And some of what she likes happens to be acceptable to me

Well, I like most of the stuff my wife likes, but my tastes are so eclectic that there's lots of music I like that she just doesn't want to hear.
