honestly, there is no one comparable to Michael Jackson today [or ever really]. im sure Justin Timberlake would spring to mind for many but we all know thats a bloody joke. its like saying, "well, Elvis is long dead so who is the current King Of Rock N Roll?" the answer is still "Elvis". the answer to your question is still "Michael Jackson".

Well said. Justin Timberlake is indeed a joke. To my mind, Michael Jackson is one of THE most important artists in music history along with Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra etc. His influence can't be denied despite the fact some people here seem to have a vndetta against him. I wonder - are they even familiar with his music? Michael Jackson is the most famous person in the world, in my opinion.

Pop has no king now...only an assortment of pimps and sluts.

If we are talking actually living, it easily would be Muhammad Ali. It's not even a close contest. He is also the one person that every world leader would want to be seen meeting and have a picture taken with him. While Nixon couldn't get a meeting with Leonid I. Brezhnev (then President/Dictator of the Soviet Union) Ali could and did. Always makes me laugh when I think of that. Even Saddam knew enough to meet and release hostages to Ali during the first Gulf War. He is also the one person you can be sure that someone almost everywhere you went had heard of him.

From the Atlanta Olympics the one moment you can be sure everyone will remember is Ali lighting the Torch. A lot of people have already forgotten about the bombing at Atlanta (as amazing as I find that) but they haven't forgotten that one moment.

If we limit it to music it would be Jackson, Madonna, and Paul. That's limiting it to living of course.
