Arthur Smith was one of the whitest guys to come out of North Carolina. A hillbilly musician, he gained regional fame with a local TV show featuring his brand of country musician--which was strictly squaresville(think: Lawrence Welk meets Jed Clampett). Arthur invested his money in building a recording studio in Charlotte. In the late sixties James Brown cut "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" there, and credited as producer of this soul classic?Mr White Bread: Arthur Smith.
Smith also successfully sued the makers of the movie "Deliverance" for failing to credit him as the composer of the well-known theme song which has earned millions in royalties.

Okay, so what's the explanation for the Clark Kent-thick as a brick variety she chose?
Many a female nerd college student owe her a debt of gratitude.

That lars ulrich drum kit thing was really funny....Les Claypool and Kirk Hammett went to high school together. Kirk would look at Les and form a G chord and go "I'm going to be big one day", supposedly. Les Claypool tried out for Metallica after Cliff died and they told him he was...different, and to start his own thing or something like that.

When producer Chips Momans cut his Memphis sessions with Elvis, the songs included "In the ghetto" and "Suspicious Minds." After the sessions,Col. Parker had his boys put the pressure on Momans to assign his publishing rights on the songs to the Colonel or they said the songs would not be released. Momans stood up to them, flatly refusing, and threatened to destroy the tapes there and then. For once Elvis intervened and told the Colonels' guys to back off. Momans retained his publishing, earning future millions in royalties and has the distinction of being one of the few(if not the only) publisher/writer who didn't cave in to Colonel Tom Parker's demands.

He...Who Drops Knowledge

Two Mike Nesmith related facts. You can blame Nesmith for MTV. He was the one that came up with the idea of a TV channel that played videos. He just couldn't get the project off the ground. And at that time, his mother a secertary hadn't invented White Out as of yet. Nesmith inherited more money from his mom than all the money from his Monkees related days. I think it was around $35-50 million.
