I don't agree with Chrisarclark's arrogant stance, but I do agree that you can't say that he (and I) don't like Keane because we don't like melodies...

OK, I'm willing to back off the "melody" argument. You guys aren't anti-melody, I know that. But I do think that there is a bias against melody in a whole lot of today's musical culture.
Also, I think that there's a bias against anything that seems to have "sweetness" about it. I think one reason I'm finding Keane so refreshing is that there is some sweetness in their music. Maybe I'm just getting old, I don't know...

Damn. I don't know why the hell everyone is ganging up on Keane. They're not awesome but I think they had a worthy debut album and show potential. Chris, stop making the Starsailor comparisons too. You're comparing the sound of crashing waves to the sound of nails on a chalkboard. Possibly both were/are overhyped, but the sound is really different in my opinion. Being a Coldplay fan I don't really appreciate all of the comparisons between them and Keane. Parachutes sounds nothing like Hopes & Fears and the only comparison you can make with the second Coldplay album is that both use a lot of piano. I wish Chris Martin made piano tracks as good as Keane though. He needs to stick with his guitar. I will file a complaint that Keane's album is a bit overproduced and most of the blips and bleeps are unnecessary.

Oh, if you don't like sweetness you're saying you didn't like Travis's the Invisible Band? That was undoubtedly a damn good album.

ididnt say idid write the book. you cant say you dont like Keane because you dont like/cant appreciate melody to someone who isa huge fan of all the melodic music they are attempting to immitate. what you can is say that you disagree with me on whether or not their immitation is a good one [you think it is, ithink its not].
imean, of course you can say it- you already hav and still try and maintain that it is valid. im juste sayin that your assessment on why people dont like Keane being that "Nobody likes melodies" cannot apply to me. it would be like me saying the reason you dont like Oasis is because you dont like rock n roll- understand?

and its not arrogance- if anything the Rev was being arrogant trying to assume that anyone who doesnt like Keane can appreciate melody. pointing that out is not arrogant, its juste defending my opinion against an arrogant accusation trying to undermine it.

The Invisible Band is an excellent album. ihope yure not comparing Keane to Travis though if you dont like the comparisons to Starsailor and Coldplay- that would be a little contradictory to say the least.

I listened to Hopes and Fears again last night, and I don't care what anyone else thinks. I think it's a beautiful album.
