it just don't drum 'n' bass like it used to...
is there a future for the unwashed child of electronica: drum + bass?
i have doubts, let me know your thoughts...

personally, I never got into goldie and roni size that kind of drum and bass. a bit too tame for my taste. Photek was good though, but now he is doing house... some of the guys on Shadow Records are pretty cool, but still a bit tame. Diesel Boy is okay, but his stuff gets monotonous after a while.
well, I recently got venetian snares' doll doll doll. he is really taking the genre to another level, even more so than squarepusher. I definitely am keeping an eye on him. squarepusher totally went limp a bit lately.
the next album of venetian snares is coming out soon called Winter in the Belly of a Snake. and then, he is working on another album with samples taken during love-making with his girl friend. now, that sounds totally intsereting. I can't wait to hear that.

I agree with you on that point. The only dnb artist that ever captured my imagination was Photek (shame he switched to house). I know I said it only a couple of days ago, but I was listening to it again this morning, Modus Operandi is a GREAT album. Takes a while to get into, which is probably why it got dismissed when it was released, but it really is a grower!

I gave modus operandi to my best friend for his birthday few years back. I was stupid not to get myself another copy or make a copy for myself. oh well, but I still have that CD with the remixes of Two Swords Technique and Hidden Camera. I really love those songs, especially HIdden Camera, because of the paranoia feeling it gave me. creepy!!!

venetian snares is like squarepusher on speed. so far, I only have doll doll doll from him, but that CD is the darkest and most distrubing drum and bass I have heard. he had this sample from joan bonet ramsey's murder tips hotline, I have to have that CD just for that. if anyone pushing the envelop in dnb genre, that's him. if you know anyone else pushing the envelop that much, let me know.
go to
http://www.planet-mu.com/
to check out his new album, Winter in the belly of a snake.
have fun.

I haven't heard of this guy before, but Squarepusher on speed must be just purely unlistenable!!

Yeah, but have you listened to Go Plastic all the way through? I still find it a tough listen. I'm just hoping that someday it will make sense, but right now it gives me a headache.
