Best Career after the Beatles

Apart from the music they made while with the Beatles, which member had the best music outside of the group? Lennon, McCartney or Harrison?

I didn't want to give any jokers ammunition. Sorry if anyone really feels that Ringo's work is better than the other three's - I just don't see how anyone can think this though.

Yeah, I'm just yankin' yer chain.

I had to vote for George. John wrote some amazing stuff after the Beatles but a lot of it comes off as too pretentious, it makes it hard to enjoy. I haven't heard a lot from Paul; just Ram and a few random songs here and there. I have to say, I wasn't all that impressed with Ram. I guess I just relate to the atmosphere on George's solo albums.

I picked Paul because I liked a lot of his stuff and Live And Let Die is one of the greatest rock songs ever in my opinion. (In that I mean top 30)

I voted for Lennon. I absolutely love the songs "Jealous Guy" and "Mother". I don't hear the pretentions that you hear Mr. Soul. I guess it's all about how you allow artists to strike you. Even if he were pretentious I wouldn't count it against him too much, I mean at least he can back it up.

I think that McCartney's craftmanship gives him the edge over Lennon who seemed to depend more on inspiration than craft. In some rarified circles it could be said that this makes McCartney more of the "hack" and Lennon more the "artiste'",but to my way of thinking alot of beautiful songs have been written by guys like Frank Loesser and Irving Berlin who just sat down every day and did the work. Lennon,on the other hand, waited on his muse and it's my belief that his muse left him--that whole house-husband thing was a ruse to disguise that fact. Maybe he was on the road to getting it back with "Double Fantasy" and maybe he wasn't...the album was a disapointment to me,personally.

Billy Preston...no, just kidding!...

I agree with my pal algernon. Paul developed his production chops amazingly well, and delivered the most consistantly satisfying music as a solo artist. Now, we all know he's written a lot of really lame lyrics, and a lot of people give Lennon the edge because of the fact that Lennon's lyrics were better. But speaking strictly for myself, I keep coming back to Paul's albums while John's sit on the shelf for much longer periods, because Paul's solo music engages me so much more than John's ever did. That's been the case all along with me.
