Sorry, but I disagree... They are far from brilliant and not even in the same category as The Clash... Rancid is pop-punk plain and simple. I normally dont travel into this sub-forum because there is too much pop-punk talk as if its real punk.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it just happens that mine is right

Why does this keep coming back to the Clash? The Clash rocks, yes they rock!!! But we are talking about Rancid. I'm not saying they are brilliant, I'm not saying they are retards, I'm saying I like them, and I think that they have helped.

Ok, wait... Rancid was mentioned as playing similar to the Clash. My bad The Clash is better than Rancid, but this isn't a Rancid vs. the Clash thread.

Annnyways, besides the Clash, I think that Rancid has helped punk simply because if you like Rancid, then you are going to eventually find other bands along that route.

My opinion is far from right, or wrong, but I will admit that it's biased because Rancid brought me to many new levels of music that I never would have heard if I was still listening to the radio. Rancid brought me to Refused, Fugazi, and countless other bands that are and are not punk.

Yes I am aware that this argument is similar to the Greenday good/bad thread, and that I'm on the verge of contradicting myself on that thread, but hey... it's one of those head battles again

I think Rancid has scarred the name of punk. By claiming they are a punk band it makes real punk look like shit to people that havent heard it. Just my opinion though. Reference my comment on my opinion above

I think they are punk the same way pre-ripped pants from K-Mart are punk.
Which is to say, it's great if you like that sort of thing.

More like Rancid is to punk as Barry Mannilow is to heavy metal

And Fiveliter, yes you are entitled to your own opinion, especially when it's always right, therefore predominating
