I think you over-rated Cryptogramophone by around 500 labels.

They're just a personal favorite and were included as the "token new label" that's all...I realize that their catalogue is limited, but everything that comes out of there is among the best, most original new jazz around.

Honestly, Blue Note just seems so obvious most of the time that it doesn't really need mentioning by me. That said, while they've released a ton of great music, I find that I don't listen to their catalogue as much as some others, it just works out that way...

BTW, thanks for reminding me that Fantasy grabbed the Prestiege catalogue too...so I guess I'll add ESP to the list...

in terms of re-occuring labels in my collection. My number one record label is Blue Note.

So it is rather hard not to listen to Blue Note records for any period of time.

I've been listening to a lot of Jackie McLean recently.

I'm waiting for a local record store to import the new RVG version of Jackie McLean's Destination Out.

I think I prefer the sound on the TOJC Japanese Reissues, but I like the price for the RVG Reissues :P

I can't believe my man Floydian is the only one that mentioned Hat Hut and Impulse. And what no Columbia?

With labels it depends on the style and era of music we are talking about.

ESP/Jazz Actuel/BYG are all basically the same ownership.

Riverside/New Jazz/Prestige/Fantasy/etc...were recently sold to Concord.

For some reason, I am suprised that Blue Note was placed so high on Geoff's list.

I pretty much prefer the sound on all the Japanese Reissues of all the major labels. Not just Blue Note's recordings.

I think for the recent RVG reissues they are just using the JRVG pressings that were already made. I was inputing the RVG info of the latest Blakey into my database and it came up as Free For All (Japan). I haven't gotten around to picking up any of the other recent ones. So I am not sure if this is the case for all of them. I have either the TOJC or JRVG of the latest batch except for the Blakey. Another thing there are no alt takes or bonus tracks. Something that would be the case for the Japanese reissues. But I am not sure if there would be any that would be around for this release.
