I didn't vote in the poll because it's not fair to call albums by the group The Smiths "Morrissey" albums. We must give credit to Mike Joyce, Andy Roarke, and ESPECIALLY Johnny Marr.

BEST SMITHS ALBUM: LOUDER THAN BOMBS
BEST MORRISSEY ALBUM: YOUR ARSENAL

OK, I voted for 'You are The Quarry' as the singles 'Irish Blood, English Heart' and 'First of the Gang to Die' are good. He really is quite an impressive singer. Don't really know much of his other work, quite new to him. Like the guitar riffs on Irish Blood, very effective. Wouldn't really buy his albums though. If I like the aforementioned songs which others of Morrisey's solo work would you recommend?

juste vote. all that is meant by Morrissey albums is albums from his entire catalogue includding his career with The Smiths. its not meant to slight Marr, Rourke and Joyce [even though Joyce deserves it for being sucha parasite], it more to compare when Moz's best work was done, with The Smiths or solo.

'Louder Than Bombs' is a compilation if yure wondering why its not included in the poll. same goes for 'Hatful Of Hollow', 'The World Won't Listen', 'Best I', 'Best II', 'The Singles', 'The Very Best Of', 'Bona Drag', 'World Of Morrissey', 'Suedehead: The Best Of', 'My Early Burglary Years', 'The Best Of' and any other compilations as well as live albums 'Rank' and 'Beethoven Was Deaf'.

"Louder than Bombs" is not a compilation. It is a collection of singles and b-sides, but we who were Smiths fans at the time considered it an album standing on its own. Starting with "The World Won't Listen" Smiths/Morrissey songs have been repackaged and reissued in dozens of "singles" and "best of" collections. However, unless you were a hardcore collector, "Louder than Bombs" was the first time you heard most of those 24 songs, especially across the Atlantic. So, you're right, LTB is not a proper "studio" album, but its release in early '87 had the impact of a "NEW" album.

BTW, the same thing goes for "Hatful of Hollow."

For your poll, I chose "The Queen Is Dead" because it's definitely the best of their studio albums, though "Meat is Murder" only behind by a nose. Morrissey has done some damned fine songs "solo" with Stephen Street, Alain Whyte, Mark Nevin and others, but nothing comparable to the magic that was The Smiths!

well, '...Quarry' is a great album, youd probably dig it if you like the singles to date ['Let Me Kiss You' will be the third single released off the album in sept.]. youd probably dig 'Viva Hate' too- id say the begining isa good place to start.

sorry, but they are. iunderstand where yure comin from but they are still compilations. you cant put out a collection where so much of the tracklisting has been included on previous albums or major releases [albums or singles] and not call it a compilation. a lot of people like to think that 'Bona Drag' is Morrissey's second solo album, but its not. nor are 'World Of Morrissey' and 'My early Burglary Years' which include previously "rare" or "hard to find" material.

'Louder Than Bombs' isnt better than 'The Queen Is Dead' anyway- and its too long [as compilations tend to be sometimes].

OK, I'll concede the "compilation" point, but not this malarky about LTB being "too long." It's not too long when every single song on it is pure listening pleasure!!!
