Braxton, Lacy, and Taylor fans rejoice!

Ok, I have some great news for Anthony Braxton, Steve Lacy and Cecil Taylor fans.

But before that a quick commercial from our local sponsor:

Braxton has a new 4cd box set called 23 Standards, that is excellent and I highly recommend it for Braxton fans.

Hat Hut has reissued the Anthony Braxton & Max Roach duo recording One In Two - Two In One. 75 minutes of these legends laying down some serious music.

Hat Hut also finally reissued Joe McPhee's must have recording Oleo. Like a great many of the Hat Hut releases way out of print up until this reissue.

Ok back to your regular announcement.

I just got a email that informs me that Hat Hut is reissuing:

Steve Lacy - The Way this is one of Lacy's best recordings in my opionion and like the below two hard to find these days. A must purchase.

Cecil Taylor's - One Too Many Salty Swift and Not Goodbye this is the Holy Grail of Cecil Taylor recordings at the moment. It is so out of print it sells for silly prices on Ebay the rare times it does go up for auction. This is my absolute favorite Cecil Taylor recording. The only sad thing to report is that they didn't say they were adding in any alternate or bonus tracks. And you can be sure that Peter Pfister (the king of engineers) will be working his magic on the remastering. Any Cecil Taylor fan will tell you this makes their top 3 or 5 recordings. Pulling out a lighter for each hand!!! Scheduled for release between November and December.

Anthony Braxton - Charlie Parker Project -- this one might be even more out of print than the Taylor recording. It's a killer recording that should be a part of each Braxton collection. While not on the same level as Braxton's Force of Motion Quartet it's still deserves the pulling out of the lighter! Scheduled for release between November and December.

Might have to put all three of mine up for auction so some idiot can help pay my sons tution through Law school. And maybe the oldest daughters first year at college with the left over change.

Now please keep in mind even though Hat Hut claims they are scheduled for release by between the end of August in the case of the Lacy and December for the Braxton, we could be waiting a couple of years. It took them 3 years to finally reissue Joe McPhee's Oleo from the first time they announced it was being reissued. They put it on and removed it from their pending page several times.

But unless they go bankrupt and with Hat Hut these days, that could be a possiblity these three should be released.

That is 6cds worth of some excellent must have recordings being reissued!!! Please get some bibs out for all that drooling people!

In honor of this excellent will be pulling out my copies of the Braxton, Lacy and Taylor for some excellent late night listening.

I forgot to add about the Braxton 23 Standards box that it is a limited edition release of only 1000.

After a couple of listens it's already in my top 10 new releases for 2004.

An updated for the 2 other people that might be interested.

The Taylor finally has been reissued and the Lacy was already reissued. The Braxton should be coming out anytime between now and next year. It's hatHut we are talking about after all.

You want a review? Ok, the Cecil Taylor should be part of every Taylor collection! YO!!!

The Lacy and Braxton are both excellent, especially the Lacy. However, be warned the Irene Aebi factor is high on Lacy's The Way. Keep that in mind, if you are not a fan of her style of "singing". I happen to like it overall. I think she doesn't get enough credit on the cello or violin. Everyone focuses on her "singing" and forget she can play a damn fine cello and violin.

Both oldest son and daughter are in (Cambridge, MA) at different Universities. I have another four that are waiting in the wings. Two of whom, are currently half-way through their junior year in high school.

That makes me feel so ancient right now.

Have I mentioned, that One Too Many Salty Swift and Not Goodbye is Cecil's best recording?

But WTF do I know?

I would have said three, but there hasn't been a Geoff sighting in a good bit. Never sure if Down Under's Coral Reef hasn't eaten him.
