Even the nauseating hellholes of grindcore and doom metal have a terrible mystique of their own. Grunge always felt to me like a cheap wine hangover. I also resented the grunge movement's pose of being "like real and down-to-Earth" because they wore workboots and flannel. You know, unlike those sissy European synth-pop New Romantics. I always contended you could be just as pretentious with a working class junkie pose as with a Eurotrash cokehead pose.
