Yea I know, ever since Garcia died it's been all downhill. I would give them probably a few more years though.

A band on the rise is Galactic. i just discovered them a couple weeks back. They have a fresh funky sound, stemming from New Orleans jazz. Take String Cheese Incident and mix it with "Story of the Ghost" era Phish and you have Galactic, plus sweet harmonica solos.

I almost forgot about Moe. Of any jam bands out there, they have the sound most like phish. They can jam too, and often instead of jamming with guitar solos and piano riffs, like phish, they play heavy bass and drum driven jams. The one thing they lack is the funk, but they make up for it with their unique style of hard rock jamming. Next to Phish they are probably my favorite jam band

I just got here after a long day in Nashville, and yes, I will definitely miss Phish. I am particularly bummed that I never had a chance to see them live. I may have to invest in a DVD at some point.
But I must say, they ended on a wonderful note with the new album Undermind. It has quickly become a favorite for me. I love the whole idea of a jamband album about contemplation (which is pretty much the theme of most of the songs--all of the Trey Anastasio compositions, to be sure). It even has an orchestral grand finale puctured with a joke tune (ala Abbey Road). That it was never intended to be their final album makes it even neater that it reaches such a satisfying conclusion.
I think that Phish's audience will continue to grow as time goes by. They may be bigger in retirement than they were during their career. It'll be interesting to watch how their cult following develops from this point.

The selection of Phish dvds is pretty slim, in fact there is only one, Live in Vegas. And that particular show isnt anything too special. Rev, you might as well wait for the IT festival dvd to come out in october, that setlist is much better than Live in Vegas,

I read somewhere that this IT festival DVD is going to be the one to get. I don't mind waiting for it.

That looks like a good line up to me, although I would liked to have seen the Divided Sjy on the show list.
