Black Eyed Peas a cheap imitation of FUGEES

I mean, just look at them, there's even a guy that looks like Wyclef, but besides this, they are light years away from the Fugees musical talent, I want to know the opinion of you guys on this...

In terms of the music, I'd much rather listen to Black Eyed Peas, and they are one of my favorite Hip Hop artists right now...great stuff...Elephunk is amazing...

I dislike both bands. But I must commit that the Fugees are definitely the better musicans and that they did a few nice songs.

I saw BEP once on MTV doing a live version of "where is the love?". It was really poor.
And just compare Lauryn Hill with that Black Eyed Peas girl. It's ridiculous.

I agree with Reycapataz on this one.

But I don't think that BEP are trying to imitate the Fugees.

BEP are a cheap imitation of themselves. I understand why you draw the comparison. Will I Am wishes he had an ounce of the musical talent that Wyclef has. The rest of the members of BEP wish they had 1/5th of the lyricism of the Fuggees as a whole. But wait... theres more reasons to hate them! They dumped Esthero for that blonde haired bimbo hag (yes, hag -- she's quite old), and in fact Esthero was by FAR the more talented vocalist. They also sold-out in a big way once they got into the hands of the label.

The Fuggees, on the other hand, are paragons of integrity and respect. The Score is one of the best albums released in the last 15 years, production wise. And despite the weird, and sometimes colossal failures of their respective members in solo projects, the Refugee Camp worked together great chemistry as a whole. I'd say I'd pay upwards of 60 dollars for a ticket to seem them perform live, as a group. And I dont have to pay for shows -- EVER. So there you have it.

Cut me some slack, halcyon, I've heard less than 70 proper hip-hop albums -- it's probably my weakest genre knowledge-wise next to country music. From what I've heard from Black Eyed Peas, I like, based purely on how they sound to my ears. As I don't have much to compare them too, they sound fresh to me and I enjoy it. Eventually, as my collection and knowledge of the genre expands, they may reveal themselves to be less interesting than they seem, or maybe not. We'll see.

I lay dollars to ducksfeet that you'll see the light and dismiss the poseur fashion whores. Have you listened to The Score by The Fugees, from end to end? They are from a whole other universe, compared to BEP. A good universe, where people frown on the wholesale appropriation of hip-hop Cliches, ad infinitum.

Here is a good list of albums to work through in order to see a proper perspective:

Common Sense - One Day It'll All Make Sense
De La Soul - Stakes Is High (if you listen to Pony Ride & Sunshine and ARENT feeling it, you are less than a human being!)
J-Live - The Best Part
The Roots - Illadelph Halflife

Then listen to these tracks individually:

Mos Def - If you can huh you can hear
Rakim - Its Been A Long Time
Jeru The Damaja - Scientifical Madness
Jeru The Damaja - Return Of The Prophet pt. IV
Jungle Brothers - Brain

It makes me think of the what kind of fan are you? thread in the rock section. This is the honest kind of fan. Unfortunatly some people can't accept that.
