Aphex Twin vs. Autechre
All right, given the landslide that was the "Squarepusher vs. Venetian Snares" poll, I figured I should try again...maybe this will be more of a balanced affair.
So let's have it -- who do you prefer?

well since these two artists really don't compare with one another (not from my standpoint), it would be way too hard to pick one over the other. I would pick Aphex Twin for limited standards, but Autechre for experimental standards and for more of a long term type effect. It's hard to compare 2 pioneers that everyone mimiced from.

Damn, you're always lurking around here, aren't you?
I agree that in technical terms it'd be pointless to try and compare/contrast their music...these threads are more popularity polls than anything else, just " whose music do you prefer?"

yeah, I know. But I would like to think you would compare 2 artists in the same vein and not so different in styles. Sure, they both may be considered "IDM" but that's about it (when it comes to actual sound). This would be a hard one though. Maybe if you were to compare Remarc with Roni Size or Alio Die with Mathias Grassow
I probably listen to Autechre more, but I can't say that I prefer them over Aphex Twin.

They are very different, but I say autechre because Ive been listening to them all day. But I could of just of easily of said Aphex Twin if I was in a an IDM 'mood' today. If it was genious vs. genious then IDK, i dont know autechre too well.

Its very hard to decide.
Rich james is a genius, but sometimes makes music which is unlistenable (eg Smojphace ep) whereas Autechre are genius who sometimes make unlistenable music (eg EP7).

You find EP7 unlistenable? That's odd...it's one of my favorites...

I was thinking more in terms of popularity than their actual sound...they being two of the biggest names in IDM...oh well, if the thread's a flop so be it, I gave it a shot!

Smojphace was just like it's predecessor (26 mixes for cash) for one distinct reason.
If you think EP7 (which is more like an LP) is highly unlistenable, check out Confield...
