i agree to your statements ... parts of the concert in china are also still listenable in my opinion. what you said about autechre i agree too. maybe i prefer a diffrent album but thats just matter of taste. mabye for me the most "out there" or call it "academic" album is confield, and thats what i do not like about it. but thats maybe the point some people love about this work. draft 7.30 is more catchy again and also easier to enjoy.

autechre has never been really joyful, incunabula is dark and cold in the same way confield is. it is just that their more recent sound design enhances the gloomy mood of their tracks.

maybe amber is their warmest album, which at times is relaxing and a bit more emotional.

if you want to relax or feel spirithual autechre ain't the band.

I disagree. Cichli particularly is really soulful and uplifting.

Yes that, and the EP7 and Peel Session 2 are sort of semi-happy and sort of positive mood-wise.

Anyway AUTECHRE is dark and cold for my soul.

I'm glad to see that Mr. James hasn't completely overtaken the poll.

Anyway, to contribute, my personal feelings on the matter are that the recordings of Aphex Twin seem to reflect more of a distinct personality than Autechre. Autechre manages to create what I think is a consistent mood, feel, and style, but Aphex Twin has a specific attitude, manner, and voice that I can relate to more than Autechre. This, in itself, puts Aphex above Autechre for me, and I find myself "enjoying" his music more. I'd say that with Autechre, it's more a matter of respect.

..."with Autechre, it's more a matter of respect..."

Je je that is true in my case too. I really admire the guys but I rarely feel in an Autechre mood.

I am in a POLE, BIOSPHERE, DUB TRACTOR or ORB mood way more often.

Aphex Twin.
I think he's more adventurous.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Autechre, they make amazing music, and I listen to them as often as any other electronic artist that I'm familiar with, I just think Aphex Twin manages to make electronic music that actually evokes an emotional response in the listener, while Autechre is more about style and craft. I think that, in general, Autechre's music is more intellectual while Aphex Twin's music is "cooler" and operates on more of a gut level...if that makes any sense.

I love the magpie aspect of most of Aphex Twin's stuff. He seems to have a curiosity that he's tried to quench over the years and albums, and I appreciate this approach slightly more. Autechre seem to have pioneered a niche and built upon that, which people call stagnating. They do their stuff damn well, but you need to be in the mood for it...
