because they always suprised me with their new releases. now they just continue to do the same things they did years ago. okay i have to admit that Draft 7.30 is again a very good album after the disapointing Confield album. and what happened to Aphex Twin. He releases albums with 500 songs on it. it would be wiser to select the songs to get a nice album with less good songs on it. i prefer quality over quantity.
i remember Incunabula was released. i didn´t even buy it at the time because for me it sounded like a pop album. I even prefer to listen to Jean Michel Jarres - Zoolook album which was releases 9 years before what is more unique and progressive for me. Just in allusion to your name.

They continue to do the same things? Well, possibly the past has made it's way back, but is that always a bad thing? I believe, up to Confield, it was more of an unravelling effect. Starting off with "Incunabula" (not mentioning the very first release, Cavity Job 12"), I believe they showed their beginnings of thought of how they wanted a different sound to come across. With "Amber" they worked on that sound. Then, the "anti ep" came out and blew me away. The combination of those 3 songs probably make my "best" ep of all time list.

Tri Repetae came out back in 95 and showed their evolving sound into more experimental beat oriented territories and proved to be one of the turning points of IDM/experimental back in the day. "Chiastic Slide" was where it progressed from there up until the unsettling work which became "Confield".

What do you mean Aphex Twin released an album with 500 songs on it? I know it's just a generalization, but Drukqs was an album over a span of probably 2-3 yrs of recordings, so it being a 2 disc set doesn't surprise me. It's one of his most experimental albums and I commend him for it. An electronic musician is just like any other musician. He/she has the freedom to release what he/she wants on a label, but he/she must get respect from the community around him for people to even accept EVERYTHING he/she wants to release. As you notice, the last albums turned out by Aphex and Squarepusher have been inconsistently varied, although I like change within an album in those matters so it keeps me interested. But sometimes, things such as these can go awry and be terrible.

Hey, I'm with you. I prefer quality over quantity as well, and this is why I think Mr. Aaron Funk (aka Venetian Snares) has lost a lot of fans over the past couple years because he just seems to spit out mind junk with the overused, overprocessed samples over and over. Don't get me wrong, he's quite the talented musician, but I see it as an overwhelming personality trait to "get things done very quickly"

So you prefer to listen to Jean Michelle Jarre, eh? I think I listened to one of his "best of" albums as I was getting into electronic music and I liked it. But, to no surprise, I picked it up again just a year ago and felt that it was simplistic wankery.

I suppose everyone has their own opinion

Autechre is the trend, has been the trend and will continue being be the trend for some more years.

Confield is in some way, their greatest album and one of the greatest albums ever made with computers.
