...and I'll get back to that essay on them at some point!

I am probobly gonna end up dling some of those, but I want to buy all the ones that I can
In other words, which cds by the residents would be acceptable for a JEHOVAH'S WITNESS. Also keep in mind I would have to listen to the cd in the car ride home from the store with my dad. Any suggestions?

Eskimo would be well suitable for a Jehova's Witness, as the lyrics are rarely in any kind of language at all. If you can hide the title, or artwork for the album, "Third Reich n Roll" would be suitable, because it's mainly bizarre covers of songs from the '60s. The only releases I'd avoid for religious purposes would be "Wormwood" and "God in Three Persons", for obvious reasons.

"Demon's Dance Alone", their last new album, might be the easiest release to find, and it is The Resident's back to their best, I'd highly recommend that one.

Avoid "Have a Bad Day", just because it sucks, in a huge way.

I was a slobbering and maladjusted fan up until around "Stars and hank" or so. I like much of what they've done since (Gingerbread Man) and detest just as much (the king and eye)

I think some Residents have bailed ship over the years and that it really shows in the music.
I like the "Walt Disney on Acid" stuff best. (Like Duck Stab/Buster and Glen)

but 'Mark of the Mole' and 'Eskimo' are breathtaking, one of a kind records made to be listened to from beginning to end.

I don't see why not.

Eskimo is nearly instrumental save some chanty stuff about not praying and coca cola.
Mark is trickier but it's still pretty far from being offensive, I would think.

I like it a LOT.
every song is exactly a minute and it's got some neat "guest stars" on it (like Andy Partridge and Lene Lovich)

Mainly it falls into the "Walt Disney on Acid" category so I'm all for it!

Talking My favorite Residents

Thanks for this Residents thread. I love The Residents. I'm not the biggest Residents connesewer out there, but I've perused quite a few of their records. I'm glad East Side Digital has reissued so many of them. "Icky Flix," "Gingerbread Man," "Hell!," "God In Three Persons," "Commercial Music," Residue Deuxe," "Diskomo," and "Wormwood" are among my faves.
Somebody mentioned Mark of the Mole which is ultra-strange and mysterious. I hope it gets reissued. The vinyl copy I ripped my CD-R from was kinda warped.
On Stars and Hank forever, their version of Kaw-lija (the wooden Indian) is the best I've ever heard! I wonder, did they or did they not steal that backbeat from Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean"? Listen to it, you'll hear what I mean!
The amazing thing about The Residents is they've kept their identities secret for over 30 years. Only a handful of people in the Bay Area can confirm they know a Bona Fide Resident. I know a guy who knows one, but he won't give up the name, not to me, not to anybody!

Digger:
I have that same picture of George Orwell pinned to my bulletin board (minus the psychedelic negatives, of course).
