I've posted this before, but I wish the last section of "Stairway To Heaven" was more heavier than it is... It's great, but I think it could have been greater (and heavier)...

The Beatles' Helter Skelter, and Derek & the Dominoes' Layla.
Lemme explain!
Paul McCartney has often said that the genesis of Helter Skelter was an attempt to better the Who, and do the loudest, most raucous song ever. I've always felt that Helter Skelter doesn't come close to that ambition. However, I do like the song.
And Layla? the first half is real fine, magnificent. The second half, the "piano" stuff, doesn't quite meld with the expectations of the first half.

I agree... The song doesn't live up to McCartney's wishes, but for it's time, it was quite heavy...

well i bet they wouldn't be too willing to sarcrifice their songwriting genius for pure heavy music
the song rocks, and still their songwriting shines through

Interesting topic, let me think about it for a while. I was thinking of a few in my car while I drove around yesterday.

BB King's "Rock me baby". I heard Blue Cheer's rendition before the BB King version and when I finally got around to listening to the King, it just wasn't the same.

The last Queens of the Stone Age cd could have been louder. Actually, I wasn't satisfied without it being heavy so I raised the volume on every track using Creative Wave Studio.
