Does your city support the scene?

I know a lot of U.S cities don't really support the electronic music scene as much as they could. Cities would more readily fork over money or put out shows for orchestras or jazz bands than for a renowned house legend or an amazing turntablist.

Howver in Chicago this year there are big changes. The opening of a huge park was the basis for a late night show. And even more so, every Wednesday the city puts on huge free shows w/ headliners such as Dj Green Velvet, Bad boy bill, and there is even an entire day in August dedicated to world famous Frankie Knuckles. The support for these shows is immense and i think this is a huge step in resurrecting the scene that was once so frowned upon, at least here.

Here is an example of a show... except its usually about double the amount you see.

How much does your city support the scene? Do you have events like this?? Just curious.

Leeds (in the UK) is bollocks for the scene.

There are drum&bass nights and a number of house nights, but IDM-nothing. Which is why I'm trying to set up a night starting in January as somewhere for more interesting musicians to come and play live.

I don't think there's anything here. But this is a small town anyway. There is the Quart festival of course but that is mainly a Rock & Roll festival

From what I've seen in latin america:

Quito, Ecuador: There is a movement for electronica (of course not comparable to other bigger cities)
but the government in an effort to keep the city as cultural as possible colaborates giving facilities for concerts to take place
Did you saw this year's Miss Universe pageant?? Well thats the place where most of electronic concerts take place...so there you go, its not huge but thats how much this city supports the scene

As for Buenos Aires, Argentina: I'm not shure if actually the "city" supports it, but it seems that actually there are bigger, badder and more electronic festivals and concerts than tango's LOL

Cape Town is actually really good. There are a lot of -incredible- local guys that are great when you catch them. It's a real laid-back city and the music scene reflects that. Big appreciation for Trip Hop, Lounge, and the like. House and Trance is also really huge, When Tiesto or Van Dyk come around the city just plain old shuts down for a couple of days.

London's pretty much an electronic hub, loads of clubs and so on.

Also, recently, some free festivals/concerts around and about, you just have to have a sharp eye to catch posters.
Old Street is the place to be, and some places around Soho, but it's not as 'trendy' nowadays.
