Rockabilly pioneer Carl Perkins once described his brand of music as "a country man's song with a black man's rhythm."

No problem... Rocakbilly is one of the few country music offshoots I can handle... I'm not much of a country music fan...

Not a single vote for Prog -- for shame!

But seriously, while they are similar, I think Experimental Rock as a designation covers much more musical ground than Progressive Rock itself. Prog, Kraut-Rock, Post-Rock, Industrial, Noise-Rock, all of these can be lumped in with "Experimental Rock", so the term Prog then becomes limited to specifically those early '70s rock band and their followers who had predominantly Symphonic aspirations.

That said, it's still a shame no one cares for that one style in particular.

Wow, two of my favorite styles aren't even listed here, classic and thrash. Those along with progressive and blues-rock are definitely my favorites. I would also like to point out that when country-rock is done right it is also one of my favorites. It's hard to beat some classic Skynyrd.

i was thinking a bit during a car ride today about how bogus some of the names applied to styles of music are. like, for instance, if you have to call your music 'intelligent dance music,' who isnt going to immediately dismiss you as a moron? what pretension! i certainly will. like, calling something freejazz verges on declaring everything else 'chained jazz' or 'submissive jazz.' 'progressive' implies that all other rock is stationary and dull?!
well i know they are just names, and i respect plenty of musicians who naively describe their music as 'alternative,' (undoubtably suggesting that all else is unalternative, or something vague like, as if alternative even MEANS anything anymore, or ever did), but its a little excessive to have some kind of built-in proclamation of your greatness in the style you play.

agreed?

The wild and hick-up singin style we owe to Elvis.
Famous rockabilly titles you might know: Blue Moon of Kentucky, Baby let's play house and Good rocking tonight from Elvis. Come on everybody, Summertime Blues, Something Else from Eddie Cochran.

More recently: Stray Cat Strut, Rock This Town and Sexy and 17 by the Stray Cats.

And I voted Rockabilly by the way....
