i have no idea why i said Bela Fleck on the first page.

Phish and Led Zep are by far the best bands all the way through

Honorable Mention: C2B3, The Who, Medeski Martin and Wood, Dave Matthews Band

Radiohead are somewhat deserving of mention for this as well. Johnny Greenwood is one of the greatest musicians around rightnow. Phil Selway is an excellent drummer and Johnny's brother, Colin is a more than competent bassist to fill out the rhythm section. now, Ed O'Brien has never been a standout, but he is a solid player and he maintains a more traditional rock sensibility that is somewhat lost on the others in the band. and of course Thom Yorke is one of the great vocalists of his [or any] time.

I agree with a vote for Dave Matthews Band, all the musicians are quite prolific. Although Boyd Tinsley is in a relatively small group of rock violinists to be compared with (I can't think of any others right now) but he's excellent. I agree with the usual ensambles like, Rush, Led Zep, etc). Especially with Yes. They had many different personnel changes over the years but at any given point in their history, the band was always top notch except for maybe the Trevor Horn period.

although the Pixies are a fantastic band, they were/are not the best technically... so they say themselves... yet I think that many of my favourite bands are no technical masters, yet I don't really care about that... Tom Waits would never pass a singing exam in a music school, yet he's one of my favourite singers ever... then some musicians that are hailed for their fabulous musicianship do nothing for me...
