Stairway to Heaven
Yeah, it's a great song, but I;m tired of walking into every last guitar store and seeing some gooch-face little 10 year old up to a balding fat 47 year old sitting there with an acoustic guitar or with an electtric guitar and playing goddamn Stairway to Heaven. It was cool to walk into a guitar store and show up when the song first came out.
It's a good song, but you're not Jimmy Page and playing doesn't show your playing talent oringinality anymore. You're a ruining a good song, stop playing Stairway to Heaven in guitar stores, join the fight... man
P.S. I once walked into a guitar store and saw a sign that said NO STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN and some guy got kicked out for playing it, that was cool.

That's true, just tired of everyone telling me "I CAN PLAY STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN! WATCH! LOL!!!111!!1 I ROX AT GUITAR"
I hate myself for saying LOL!!!111!!1 now...
But yeah, it isn't a simple song on guitar, but just because you ccan play it doesn't mean you rule. THat's what im tired of people thinking

please tell me how playing a song is ruining a song? i dont get it. people play it because it it the most beautiful intro of any rock song in history. if any song had to be played to death, i would choose stairway. what about smells like teen spirit? that song is played even more than stairway.

I don't hear people playing it around my local guitar shops, I guess we are of a higher breed up here in Seattle.
BTW, I don't mind it as much as long as they are playing the guitar solo and not the acoustic intro.

Well as long as they play the real intro, not the crappy toned down version.

my friend made a funked out version of it. ive played it in guitar shops and no1 noticed or cared, they were like "what's that? its fucking awesome"
then i dropped its an original funked version of stairway and they're like, "sweet!"
//end story

i remember reading an article in a guitar magazine a few years ago... they went on to talk about what you should and shouldn't play in a music store (especially if you want good service)
BOTH stairway to heaven and smells like teen spirit were on the do no list...
it basically boils down to this... put yourself in the clerks' shoes... how many times a day does he have to listen to a shitty rendition of the intro to stairway? a sloppier version of teen spirit than should be possible? and after all that they have to try to be civil with the over-inflated guitar guy ego... because we ALWAYS know better than the hack behind the counter right? (like when he starts talking up the epiphones based on your skill while you're eyeballing the PRSs)... and after listening to all the crap how often do they get a sale bigger than a pack of strings?
then again listening to a balding cheeseball with a fat gut play some 'crazy ripping widdly widdly widdly' generic metal lead is just as annoying as the intro to stairway...
basically it boils down to being considerate... just because they let you plug into the sweet marshall stack in the corner doesn't mean you have to crank it up to 10... and just because you think stairway is the greatest rock intro in history doesn't mean the people that work in the store want to hear it for the 47th time before lunch that day...
