For the Prelude's my top 3 in order of preference

Walter Gieseking - EMI -in my opinion the gold standard for both Prelude Books. EMI has reissued it as part of the Great Recordings of the 20th Century series.
Martino Tirimo - Carlton Classics
Krystian Zimmerman - Deutsche Grammophon

Creepy:

Check out some of Shostakovich's string quartets...'specially the later ones.

Alfred Schnittke's music is often creepy.

I quite like these:

* (forgot the composer...): Dance of the sugar plum fairy
* Debussy: Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune
* Mozart: Eine kleine Nachtmusik - Romanze (I played that once!)
Klarinettenkonzert KV 622 (I almost played that! )
* Bach: Mondschein Sonate (this one's famous)

And of course the post rock bands Orpheus named are great (although I'm less familiar with A Silver Mt Zion)

The topic is creepy music...

Tchaikovsky's Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy makes the Back Street Boys seem creepy.

at least haunting, at least at some moments...

Ihateyou, A Silver Mt Zion is actually just a part of Godspeed You Black Emperor who play smaller and sometimes vocal pieces, a bit less good, but still very much worthwile...
But I won't be able to send you files through AIM, 'cause I don't have it (AIM I mean)...

Just get everything you can by Schnittke
Any Shostakovich string quartet after the giddy No.3 should do. Nos.4-15.

Schnittke: Concerto Grosso No.1 / get his string quartets as well (I have the Kronos Quartet's recording on Nonesuch...I'm happy with it)

Another composer...sort of in the same vein: Sofia Gubaidulina: a good example of one of her darker pieces is Sieben Worte für Violoncello, Bajan und Streicher

If you want over-the-top, try Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima by Penderecki (it's a study in tone clusters, but it wouldn't have been so famous if it was named that!) The Naxos recording is good...and cheap.

One of the ultimate black pieces is Shostakovich's 8th Symphony (get the one conducted by Haitink).

I think Stravinsky (Le Sacre du Printemps, among others) is pretty sickening.. I don't like expressionism.
