nope. they had no idea i liked metal until my dad listened to my Neurosis cd last December right before i lost my connection. Metal had nothing to do with rebellion. I just disliked my parents. I listened to all that nu metal first, and it all had all those lyrics about parents and crap...

The first metal I liked was probably Metallica when some of my friends started getting into them, but the band that really got me started on metal was Tool.

It was pretty popular when I was in Jr. High school. Even the preps liked bands like Quiet Riot and Twisted Sister at the time. From those bands I got into heavier bands like Iron maiden and Metallica. I can't say anyone brought me to it as it was the norm at the time. I liked it then and I still like it now.

That right there is my main reason for listening to metal.

I should also point out, that when I started listening to the music that it didn't have the title of Metal at the time. It was still called Rock. I forget when exactly it started getting called Heavy Metal.

Ride The Lighting brought me to metal but I didn't really pursue it until I downloaded the live version of Fear of The Dark and The Number of the Beast both my Iron Maiden.
