how could you compose a piece that doesn't exist in time?

only an "experimentalist" could do it

Yeah. I think some guy at Cal Arts put some kittens in a harpsichord (he MUST have been making fun of that whole scene). I guess that's what happens when Mickey Mouse becomes involved with music. Strange that his ears are so big...

It's one stupid gimmick after another. I wouldn't want my music to be more interesting to read about than to listen to.

My musical philosophy can be easily understood by watching David Cronenberg's Shivers. Music seems to be overrun with boring pseudointellectuals. I prefer viscera.

Y'know that Cage didn't think that was very funny?

The "idea" used for germination should NOT be more interesting than the resulting music.

Your right...a bad composer can mess up anything. Look at Paul Dresher's work. New age combined with bad 80s music. Not written well to boot! Check out Slow Fire. Any liking you have for him should be squashed by that nonsense.

When was that? I'm surprised PETA didn't land him like a ton bricks!

The ruse often involves an attitude that says, "you're just not sophisticated enough to understand it."

Oh, get over yourself, John!

Well, if you're gonna talk about '80s New Age music then...sheesh! I don't know...

That's why Ligeti's one of my favorite composers. He has a sense of humor and isn't afraid to point out other composers' pretentiousness. He did the same thing when Stockhausen made those "polemical" comments about the WTC attack on 9/11. Ligeti said something like "Anyone who thinks that killing 3000 people is art needs to be in an insane asylum."

And the fact that Hungarian Rock is constantly in my head.

My favorite response to these lazy hypocrites is: Fuck off, I can write a fugue.

Well, how else is Stockhausen gonna get Rush Limbaugh to talk about him? I was like, "Karl, please, I think it's time for your nap."

Sounds about as deep as the rest of Cage's poetry.

... I've always thought putting "Fugue" and "F*ck You" in the same sentence was more than a little redundahDundant...
