Lightbulb Best 'spur of the moment' purchase

I tend to buy a lot of music that I've not been specifically looking for, stumbling across something cheap that looks interesting, or I've vaguely remembered someone mentioning. Does anyone else shop in this way? If so, what recent delights have you discovered?

The album that made me think up this thread was Crescent - By the Roads and the Fields. I'd never heard of them, but the description on the sticker said "Melancholy songsmithery", which sounded cool, and it was only £3.

Turns out it was a great album, I've listened to it more than anything I've purchased in the last month or so, so downbeat, mellow, languid and amospheric.

MMmmmmmmmmm. Nice.

I went to taco bell last night and ordered a nachos bell grande.

I wasn't specifically looking for it.

It was cheap and looked interesting.

I vaguely remembered someone mentioning it.

It was a delight.

Seriously though I bought the new iced earth album solely because of the artwork on the album cover (which is AMAZING!). For the most part anyway. I had heard of the band and one or two of the songs but I knew nothing about the album when I bought it. I was on my way to the cash register to pay for a DVD when the album caught my eye. Ended up buying it. Awesome.

I like to scour opshops for cheap records. Opshops out in surburbia sell records for less than a dollar each. Most of the time it's classical music or easy listening, but sometimes you stumble across something excellent, like Leonard Cohen's Songs of Love and Hate. That's got to be my best buy, but I've also a handful of Andrew Sisters, Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone and cheesy pop-Latin numbers. Yee!

Pretty much every CD i buy is spur of the moment, when people recommend things to me i purposely dont get MP3s to see if i like it, so its a surprise.
