Why ???
My vision of all these classifications is more a marketing image than anything else. Fusion
is supposed to be the union between Mr. Jazz and Miss Rock. But if you listen carefully to
the Rock and Roll (the real one, the one where we can dance the Rock and Roll (Chuck
Berry and al.))

, it is a simplified version of the swing (compare the classic riffs of
the rock&roll with “In the mood (Garland/Razaf)). Rock has become almost everything
(anything) that is loud music with screaming singer. Then it becomes everything ... that
rocks
Jimi Hendrix was considered a Rock guitarist, but if you listen carefully to some of his
tunes, there’s jazz in there (e.g. Third Stone of the Sun). Eric Clapton is more into the
blues than the Rock (he plays a lot like Robert Johnson 1911-1938, moreover he plays his
tunes (e.g. Malted milk)). Rock is born from the “basis of the jazz, it is the chorus (more
or less) without the improvisation, the KISS music (Keep It Stupid Simple, three chords
max). But there's a lot of good music labelled Rock
So for me, Moondog, in the 50s !!! was exploring all the facet of music, unclassifiable.
And like he said : “No the wheel was never invented. It can't be division so for me it's
real fusion.
