Cool The Last Poets

The Last Poets

I haven't seen any discussion of these '60s Rap pioneers, and it's a shame...they practically invented Rap music with their political lyrics and rythmic vocal explorations. Their first few records are masterpieces of the genre and remain some of the most engaging, groundbreaking, and enjoyable records of their time...I hope I'm not the only one here who listens to these guys.

Any favorite albums/tracks?
Any live experiences?
Discuss.

A good group, but it was hard to keep track of who was in the group or in jail.

I've heard some of their compositions. They're one of the few rap related groups that actually stand behind their title. Their lyrics and poems were interchangable which in my eyes is the true defination of lyric arrangement and overall creation.

I think they are terrific judging by their contributions to a lot of Bill Laswell's stuff in the 90's.
They are a HUGE Influence on Funkadelic if nothing else and I think that's plenty to make me grovel at their feet!
