Question Greatest Period For Avant-Garde/Experimental

What do you feel was the most important period for Avant-Garde music as we know it today?

(( I don't really have time for a response right now, but I thought I should get this thread going ))

1960's without a doubt had the most avant garde music coming from different people, but as far as im concerned Satie started it all and accomplished the most. minimalism (listen to avant-derniers pensees) , impressionism, extended tonality/atonality(in the loosest sense)... i hate all of those terms but yeah

I think the 1920s was a really great period for Avant-Garde Music.
