those guys can REALLY sing.
I can't tell if you're serious or mocking, but Jones and haggard have something more interesting than a voice..a "sound." Mick Jagger has a sound...Robert Goulet has a voice. Dig?

I AM serious.
Go listen to George Jones right now
I'll wait.

Done yet?
You gotta admit, the guy's really got some phrasing and stuff.
Seriously, I like real singers and I definitely think G.J. is a real, bona-fide, Jen-Yoo-Wine Sanger!

My parents listened to a great deal of country music as I was growing up and I kind of shrugged it off until I got older. By that time (in my 30s) I started getting into it and now it's a solid part of my musical catalog

I listen to it occasionally on the local GI station. They have some nice tunes every now and then. Only I don't like the ballads.

And of course I like all music involved with Smokie & The Bandit and The Dukes Of Hazard!

yeah, country--like blues, gospel, and r&b--is an incredibly rich, varied part of american history. but, just like blues, gospel, and r&b, it's been overtaken by the commercialism of the mainstream media. there's a lot of great stuff to explore, both past and present. i can't imagine my musical collection without any country.

and to answer the Londoner who started this thread, I've always been a citydweller.

and, by the way, I've met a lot of Africans who love Dolly Parton.
