What about "Here Today", "Don't Talk Put Your Head on my Shoulder"(with its' haunting chamber ensemble).. I'll take either one over "She's Leaving Home" or the other three beatles tracks you mention above...and I think "Wouldn't It Be Nice" with rocking accordians and innovative tempo change is every bit the masterpiece of "God only Knows"..but I must go to bed now. Good discussion!

I fully agree with Algernon about the talent Brian Wilson displayed at that time (songwriter, singer, producer)... I think he outshines each Beatle as far as an overall talent at that point in time... And, (although it has been overplayed on radio) Good Vibrations from just after the Pet Sounds period shows me he had the talent to create the type of quality song that could compete with any form of music (but, his Smile project was and still is a failed attempt to put it all together)...

I won't argue about Wouldn't It Be Nice,, I will acknowledge that it can be considered a masterpiece... But I don't think "Here Today" and "Don't Talk__" are very good songs... Just my opinion...

Sleep well (you should put "God Only Knows" on before you sleep, it is a perfect good night tune,,, heck, it's a perfect tune anytime... It may indeed be the "perfect tune")...

A side story on Sgt. Pepper's. I had to take my sisters....(who like my brothers are all younger than Satchmo), to see the THE ULTIMATE HORROR Peter Frampton and Brothers Gibb film based on the record.

I couldn't listen to any of the music again for at least 4 years afterwards. I would always remember scenes from the film when I heard any of the music. As well as seeing Frampton and Brothers Gibb in my mind, singing the songs.

I will NEVER understand how the Beatles allowed it to be made.

The only experience that was worse was having to take my sisters to seeing the Brother's Gibb (THE

HORROR OF ALL HORRORS
) live following the hysteria of SNF aka The Abomination

Also as a side note, I have enjoyed each and every "made for TV" movie on the Beach Boys... I realize they were often low budget affairs, but if you ever get to see the one where Bruce Davidson (I think that's his name) played Dennis, be sure to catch it... It's really well made (except for the fake beards all the actors wore in the late 60's early 70's era)... But overall, it was a good movie...

..oh I almost forgot "You Still Believe In Me" with the beautiful ''I wanna cry" refrain that surges at the end like a wave in perfect haromony and the bicycle horn!

You know dude, this is exactly why I go with Pet Sounds. Technically speaking, Sgt. Pepper is one rad, mind blowing album for sure. Its miles above Pet Sounds in terms of musical innovation and experimentation. But the human element? All with The Beach Boys.

I feel for you man. A few of my dorm mates who were really into Frampton and the Bee Gees, dragged to the movie. I thought it was all a horrible nightmare.

I still voted for Sgt. Pepper because it IS an awesome album and I just can't stand the Beach Boys.
