As long as I am alive I am in the proper mood.

If having hits was the only thing that meant anything than I guess Hendrix is not on Justin Timberlake, Brittney Spears, Madonna's level.

Just how many top 40 hits do you think Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Sex Pistols, Ramones, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys and many others ever had combined? Justin might have more hits than all those great bands combined ever had.

Well, that's just it... What criteria would you say he is overrated in? (technical ability, songwriting, influence, experimentation, etc.)... He may be overrated in some areas and not in others...

I have to say i love Hendrix, i dont really understand the whole 'over rated' thing - i mean, you like him or you don't. Loads of people like him and they can't all be pretending so that they look cool.

You can tell he put a lot of effort into his music. Just compare the complexity and refinement of his guitar to similar artists today.. like lenny Kravitz and such.

definitely not overrated

Jimi Hendrix was one of a kind. He was very passionate and I feel was underrated as a songwriter because of all the attention focused on Jimi the guitarist. Jimi the guitarist was brilliant. He may have been sloppy live sometimes but back then the live experience was very loud and much looser and open to more jams. And also their amps would blow out, bass players played through guitar cabinets that blew speakers constantly which when it happened sounded like mud. I also think that Jimi the vocalist was underrated, he sang with tons of heart , came up with creative melodies like Wind Cries Mary I mean listen to that song, that guy definitely was a rock n roll musical genius.

ok, he was a great guitar player, he was a great vocalist, he was a great song writer. but listen to his music, alot of it is not on the same level he is. i judge wht i listen to mainly on how i listen to it. if i am having to skip tracks alot and can't just pop in a cd then i take it down some credit. with hendrix i have to be in a certain mood to put him in anyway, and when i do i find i just can't listen to alot of the songs on his cds. his music is far to overrated.when u only have a few of the song on ur cds be any good then should not be credited with being one of th greatest rockers ever. i'm not questioning his mark left on the rock world nor his guitar skill, i'm questioning his music. if someone came around now and was the greatest guitar player of all time but couldn't make all but a few good songs, then he wouldn't even be concidered on the level hendrix has obtained. he was around at the right time.

I was just mentioning the thing about the hit. Hendrix does deserve to be called the greatest guitarist ever, the way he switched strings around, and that almost noone can copy his style makes him just that great. However his songwriting may have not been the best, but still, I listen to Hendrix for his guitar.

Then hold on, maybe, he isn't overrated its just that you personally don't like him. That doesn't mean there's something wrong with you, just hendrix isn't you bag man.

I mean you said he's a great songwriter, guitarist and vocalist. You sound like you're just saying that so no one here will rip into you. If you don't like him, don't pretend like you do. There's a difference between thinking someone is overrated and not liking their music.

I love his music, but I don't see why people say he is the best guitarist ever
