songs that meant, "something"
the song that i remember as the "first" electronic song that i ever heard(historically speaking), and song that i remember as the "first" song to lose my shit over at a party are as follows:
bizzare love triangle--new order substance 1987--THE first electronic song i ever heard that i can remember.
two full moons and a trout--union jack--classic atmospheric techno--blew my mind--the first time it was ever really blown. there have been many since.
there are stories that go along with both songs....maybe if this thread is interesting to you peeps we can tell those stories.
i love music geeks.

welllll. can't say ive been as lucky in these instances, but i can contest Confield as a turning point in my life. i will never forget putting together my first electronic compilation. they were all Autechre tracks ranging from every era of their work.
interestingly enough, it was Confield that brought me to their music (as well as many other artists). as i was telling Josh one day, i just randomly burned tracks from all of their albums. it was quite an experience.
lets see...Twine has gotten me through heartbreak and struggle. Gantz graf has been through (oddly) many migraines. Gimmik's Back to Basics has brought me great nostalgia. Funkstorung has been blasted through the campus of CSU. ive been yelled at many times in the Cleveland area for playing Kid606. oh so many stories, but my favorite is playing Richard Devine (AsectDsect) for my mother. that was just priceless.

CJ Bolland's "The Analogue Theatre" I believe it was called...I loved it when I bought it back in the mid 90's...

Gridlock's "Further" album changed my life and rekindled my love of music.

I agree with ^
I heard Trace first and it turned my life around because I'd never heard anything remotely like it at the time, and then I went back, listened to Further, and I could see where their style started to morph from their "synthetic form" days.

For me it's a literal truth. Back in 99 I'd lost all faith in music as I was doing session bass and only ever heard pop. I'd not listened to stuff like my old Skinny Puppy albums for years so I tried them and still liked them.
Asked for a recommendation on rec.music.industrial and they suggested Further. It was the first time I'd truly loved a new album in years.

The important ones were: Huge Evergrowing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centre Of The Ultraworld, Slider by Fsol, Midnight In A Perfect World, and Whats Behind Darkness by Krush.

Etnica - Tribute, it was such a leap from other electronic music I had heard at the time that I just threw my hands in the air, dropped my jaw, and danced for the duration of my home party

My first exposure to electronic music was Vangelis - Reve and Hymne from Opera Sauvage then on to Blade Runner Blues which still gives me a comforting feeling to this day. Then on to my teens was Spacetime Continuum, FSOL and a good portion of electonic music from the early 90's all of them have special meaning to me.
