I entirely agree. Those two Garfunkel albums are delightful.

In a related thought, Walter Yetnikof who succeded Clive Davis as head of Columbia Records, did not like Paul Simon personally...he felt he was arrogant. He pretty much pushed him out the door to another label. On the other hand, he jumped through hoops to seduce James Taylor away from Warners.

Simon does come off as an arrogant guy in some interviews I have seen and JT seems like a really nice guy (but a bit flaky)...

Simon And Garfunkel are great. I like Paul SImon's solo records too, but like has already been said Art Garfunkel was the man to sing his songs. What a graceful voice he has. I saw Art on the Dave Letterman show a number of years ago and he sang Bridge Over Troubled Water and he still has a great voice. It sounded just like it did on the record.

I saw Clive Davis on 60 Minutes the other night and Simon was really like him in Annie Hall (kinda weird and gentle)... So perhaps Digger was correct all along...

Yeah, there are definitely elements...only I don't think Clive was a druggie and he was basically an east coast guy

I do think "Graceland" was a high water mark for Simon as a solo artist. The South African groove was fun and fresh and a daring departure. Also: I've always respected the way Simon has given time through the years to speak about his songwriting to college writing classes in New York. Not many writers of his stature would subject themselves to that sort of self-analysis and public scrutinity of their creative process.
