Question Jandek?

I kinda remember hearing something from him once and thought it was complete shit, but a documentary is apparently coming out on him, as he's regarded as an outsider artist by some (and just shit by others).

Anyone heard of this pretty damn enigmatic freak...

(I figured it goes under avant garde/experimental, but move it at will )

I've been trying to track some Jandek down cheap, for ages, but I just don't think you can get his stuff in Britain. I'm already convinced he's a genius, and I've not yet heard anything by him, apart from short samples on allmusic.com.

Apparantly, the best way to get his records is to write to the man himself, but I've not summoned up the courage to send money half-way round the world to a man famous for being odd.

Here's another jandek site:

i think the only way to get records is to send an order to corwood records. the address and list of avaliable items can be found at www.corwood.com
http://tisue.net/jandek is the semi official place to go for jandek information...
if you're just looking to listen to some music, and don't mind mp3's i suggest the soulseek p2p programme. it's got alot of alternative/underground music on it (including lots of jandek, and the shaggs tracks)
http://www.slsknet.org/ - its made for windows, but there is a section on getting it to run on linux/ mac osx in the forums...
http://captnswing.net/howto/nicotine/ - this is the mac osx client...

hope this helps...

He's an enigma. Apparently, nobody knows who Jandek really is. Rumor has it that Jandek is Thurston Moore, but I don't buy it.
Jandek never interested me, but I know people who can't get enough! I think he's got a 40-CD offer for real cheap, but you'd have to check his site.

heh, the wonderful influence of the internet eh? it gives us access to the weirdest people on the planet.

i especially like having jandek and the shaggs playing when i'm driving around in grand theft auto: vice city :P it gives the game that surreal atmosphere.

on the idea that jandek is a 'joke':
the point has been made that 25 ish years is a very long time to keep a joke up.
i played it to a friend of mine, and he thought it might be bob dillan (spelling?) - apparently some of his not so mainstream stuff is fairly out there. (i played him 'european jewel' - it actually has a guitar riff in it...)

That's why I said he's an "enigma." The Residents have been going for over 30 years, and no one's really sure who they all are, or who they all were!

Does anyone have any idea, why he removed the Zappa quote out of the CD reissue, of Follow Your Footsteps?

Has anyone heard anything about the rumor that there will be an official CD & DVD of his live performance in Scotland, from Oct. 2004? Am I wrong in believing; that this was his first live performance?
