The young snook of a buyer was ok. I give him credit for at least knowing Robert Johnson and Howlin' Wolf, which too many kids his age in the U.S. couldn't do.

You can't blame him for being young and trusting. After all, the employee did have at least 12-15 tattoos and 5 piercing, which I could see. I don’t even want to think about what couldn’t be seen.

Who wouldn't trust someone that looked like that, in a hip and hardcore record store?

Especially, when compared to some Ancient giant from the U.S., who was styling, with his own entourage, and partial horde.

To bring this thread back on topic, I bothered listening to some Jandek and I can't say I'm too impressed. I've been trying to determine just which combination of 3 notes/chords he uses on every single one of his songs (( that I've heard, of course )). I liked the sparse atmosphere he creates and his cautious vocal style on first listen, but then I got to Track 2 and 3 and realized they all sound the same!

It seems to me his style is based on a single Residents song that I can't think of at the moment and decided to continue a series of endless variations to put to record.

In this case, I think this is one artist that has earned his obscurity, and I hope he's comfortable there.

Heh! I was actually pretty impressed by the Jandek stuff I heard, but I wouldn't say 2 or 3 tracks sound the same, more like 2 or 3 albums. He must record some pretty close together, because you really could listen to some of them back to back, without realising he'd changed track throughout 20 songs. Especially with his latest stuff.

Anyhoo, I don't mind that, I just like the atmosphere he creates, I could listen to him hitting that acoustic guitar at random for hours on end, muttering away to himself. If it's variety your after, he's a bit more eclectic when he's got other musicians on board, particularly during his electric era.

Btw, he's actually planning to play live again this year, mega-stardom beckons.

I don't really crave variety all the time, but as a first impression it'd be nice to know that he's capable of playing more than a few patterns of notes/chords, kind of a turn off. I'm not going to pitch the albums I have or anything, I'll keep listening -- maybe I'm missing something.
