Favorite Talking Heads Album

I've been a huge fan of the Talking Heads since I was in my early teens. I don't hear much about them these days here on radiomute, so I thought I'd do a Talking Heads poll.

What is your favorite Talking Heads album? Love to hear your thoughts.

My favorite Head album is Remain In Light. This is their true peak in terms of artistic production. Stop Making Sense is a close second, a fantastic live album. The Talking Heads were known for their great live performances.

I really like what I've heard from the Talking Heads, so I borrowed Remain In Light a few months ago... But I didn't really get it... Though I've been told that it's not the best TH album to start off with... So yes this is yet another band I should get to hear more from, there are so many... *sigh*

REMAIN IN LIGHT was my choice, and to respond to Orpheus, it was the first one I owned. I'd heard a few tracks from the earlier albums, but it was this one that got me started. I read a review at the time that said it was "punk rock with African rhythms", and that intrigued me. A fair, although not totally accurate, description.

For a total newbie, I'd go one album later in the catalog--SPEAKING IN TONGUES.

I pick "More Songs About Buildings and Food" by a teensy-weensy bit.
I think it holds up as one of the very best of that decade and I'm pretty fond of that decade.
The songs and the sound still have an urgency to these earholes.

I think "Fear of Music" is a very close second.
Less urgent but confident and again, a very strong album track by track.

They wrote songs about the darndest things.

Hard for me to choose. They were my favorite band from about '78 to the time they broke up. I went with Remain In Light as well. Artistically their best I think, though I really like everything they did. Incredible band. One of the finest America has produced I think.

It took me a few spins before I really got into Remain In Light. It's so textured, with every listen you discover more sounds. It's brilliant.
