Truck driver changes Music 50 years ago Today

On July 5th, 1954 sometime between 8:30-10 pm a 19 year old Elvis recorded Arthur Crudup's "That's All Right" in Sam Phillips' Sun Studios The rest as they say is History.

I would like to add that Scotty Moore's guitar playing on the recording was also revolutionary at the time.

There were several articles floating around the news media today about this and the decades long debate as if that moment (Elvis in the studio) was the birth of rocknroll music... The consensus was that it wasn't the focal point beginning... I am not sure if there is a pinpoint event that started rock music, but if there is one, Elvis' first studio recording is sure a good argument...

I'm not sure that particular song actually was the creation of rock 'n' roll, after it was a cover version of a blues song.

I don't believe I said anything about this song being the creation of Rock. And I have already said in another thread on this board that my vote goes to Ike Turner's Rocket 88.

Everyone knows its not the beginning, ask anyone in the street and they tell you there was something before that. And the rebellion thing wasnt even done for the first time, think of swing music for instance.

not to discredit elvis -- clearly his first couple albums are killer with no filler -- but i just dont think he can claim to have invented the style, he sure did sing it well and popularized it, but he didnt create it.,

To be fair, Elvis always gave credit to black artists for inventing Rock n Roll. He said they had been doing it for years before he did.

Well now rock music is universal community. Last time I checked they don't keep people out of record stores because of their ethnic backgrounds.

Anyone intersted in these things....today (July 20th) is the 53rd Anniversary of said truck driver quitting his job and signing with Sun Records.

P.S. As a side note.....it's also the 45th Anniversary of The Stones performing live for the first time. Their first performance was at the Marquee Club in London.
