As KreigerR said "emo is for 13year old girls without a life" . I am a good friend of KR and we both know many girls that listen to emo( including my sis) and they are boring and emotional. God kill emo. Blasphemy

not if you take the real emo bands. try to check:

groundwork, angel hair, reach out, frail, iconoclast and clikatat ikatowi ... just to name some few.

and you will change your opinion for sure. believe me. and i can promise you your sister will not like them.

This post is very true.

Like previously stated Emo has its roots in hardcore. It shares the same DIY/ anti commercial ideals that old hardcore punk bands had. The difference between hardcore and Emo is that the emo bands lyrics are often about more personal matters and the vocals are more melodic than the harshness of hardcore bands. The music is often more intricate than hardcore bands. Emo was like an arty off shoot of hardcore.

The first emo band is often regarded as rites of spring, however I think that Husker Du had a major effect on the genre with Zen Arcade.

These days emo is pretty much divided into two camps one sounds more like pop punk and the other is more arty with unorthadox song structures.

Where am I getting my information??? I listen to supposibly emo songs and it's pretty obvious they all revolve around love. Rock is a genre. Emo IS a subgenre of rock because basically it's rock music with a certain focus. Besides I didn't say emocore. I hate the word "emo" enough. Start using words like "emocore" or "emotech" or "emometal" and I'll do something very unpleasant to your balls. And I didn't call indie bands emo bands; I don't think they necessarily sound the same either. The definition of emo I hear most often includes "deeply emotional music". So I say that qualifies the majority of ALL music as being emo. If you want to change the definition or name then be my guess. My whole beef is relating emo bands with emotional songwriting as if everyone else is pulling music out of their asses.

ok, let me clear this up, it doesn't just have to be "emo." I see this word caused a lot of talk. I'm into pretty much anything, yes even "emo." Now, wether you like it or not, i could care less. So whatever you guys could suggest would be great. Thanks so much!
