Quicksilver vs. The Grateful Dead
 

I thought this would be a good battle...

I personally like both bands but I feel Quicksilver is far superior... Not in influence or fan base, but strickly based on the quality of their music (studio and live recordings)...

I prefer the pre Dino Valente singing era, but I like when he was out front too...

Didn't Dino do some serious prison time?..and didn't he have a pop career later?..or am I mixed up(again)?

i THINK GRATEFGUL DEAD WERE MEANT TO BE EXPERIENCED NOT JSUT LISTENED TO....if that meakes any sense. I have never eheard of quicksilver, i WILl check the mout. seriously. hold on the tac o bell is comming back up.!

Yeah, he was supposed to be with the band when they first recorded but he was in jail on a drug charge.. But they did record some of his songs without him... I am not sure about the pop career...

I vote Dead.
I like Quicksilver's "Happy Trails" far and away the best of their output and almost feel the "Nicky Hopkins Era" is another band entirely.

I'm not the world's biggest Dead fan but I've been listening to them a lot lately and there's no doubt, those guys had their OWN sound!
While I'd be hard pressed to name a Dead album I like as well as "Happy Trails" they have many albums.

So "kachunk"

I agree that the Dead "experience" was unique (I went to one show myself to see what the fuss was all about and it was fun)... But from what I have heard first hand and read, Quicksilver provided the same "experience" in their live shows (especially during the original San Francisco psychedelic era)... But for whatever reason, Quicksilver never came close to the creating the national fan base the Dead had... Although, from my understanding, in the Bay area, Quicksilver was more popular and more respected than the Dead in the 60's...

Critical acclaim for Quicksilver is not to the level of the Dead either (although the Dead have received a lot more negative press than Quicksilver ever did)... The Grateful Dead are an amazing phenomenon,,, I just feel that Quicksilver created better music...

I can see how algernon confused the two names thought (Gino and Dino)...
