Is DJ culture ready for live jungle?

I wonder as a drummer that does live jungle in chicago, if jungle and
drumNbass dj's like the idea of live bands doing this sound. Is it still
legit in their minds, or is it a pretentious imitation?

The whole techno dj culture is fascinating really. dj's spinning records
a/o bringing up samples from laptops and other sources that are imitations
or reproductions of live instruments. and now you have musicians imitating
the imitation of dj's.

1) live musicians/recordings---->2) sampling/spinning-dj's---->>>3) musicians learning
to play the spedup and tweeked grooves of techno

it's a full circle of sorts, but where we are left off is in a totally different place now
with how people improvise live...a wormhole musicially if i may.

thoughts??

a laptop is as much an instrument as anything else. representing these sounds naturally is as you know, quite limited, but i would not say it is pretentious. as far as improvisation, it is the process by which the user manipulates the sounds that yields the personalization of the music created on the machine. i don't think music is going to be halted in real-time atmospheres by computers. there are many peripherals that allow one to manipulate and forge new ideas during a live performance. just take a listen to some live recordings of Autechre or Arovane.

Any human drummer who can consistantly play savage Amens for a long period of time is my hero.

twoplow,
you are the reason i am brother. where are more cats like you! have you checkout
my band's website and mp3's/videos? i think you may like.

www.spizm.com
www.trioizm.com

autpt,
everything you've mentioned I agree with you but i don't see how your response really responds to mine. i don't think that laptop usage in improvised music doesn't work or anything. christ, i love
cats like aphex twin, amon tobin, kid 606, etc.

i'm just making an observation on the simple fact that the progression of bands to dj's/laptopists
to musicians again is interesting being that one imitates the other but in imitating, they subsequently and inevitably change the sound of the imitation. this is the evolution of it all...the beautiful thing.
if you listen to my tracks on www.spizm.com you will notice most likely that we are somewhat reproducing the sounds of dnb, jungle, idm, and amen...but, that it has a slanted sound with other
aspects. this is the nature of change to me...that there is no such thing really as true imitation, one
will always place their stamp on it, without even trying.

Live drum and bass / jungle should be more prominate. I saw a live DNB set at the limelight in NYC about 3/4 years ago, Soulslinger was the dj and the had live horns a drummer and some backup vocals, and it blew my mind. Since then I've only had a change to see 'Sound Tribe Sector 9'. They are a jam band that the drummer is sick. You can set your watch to his 32nd's. it's nasty. Plus I've always been a hug DNB fan. It's just about the only eletronic music I still listen to.

equinox,
I try not to but i invariably like talking about the live jungle scene cuz that's what I
do. i'll tone it down if you'd like.

trustme, i'd rather be discussing other issues and matters concerning the scene,
but i find that forums always let me down cuz no one wants to really chat about anything besides what they had for lunch today. I originally had posted a longer thread which
was discussional and not related directly to my band, and some how someway it got
deleted on this site. bummer. so i decided to promote a little in that case if cats didn't
want to discuss stuff.

autpt: it's all good brother.

Thrive: yeah man I haven't heard the drummer from sts9 but i hear from numerous
sources that he's mad-crazy. That limelight show sounded killer man. sometimes
i wish i was in nyc, not chicago. but this is a great city to get yourself out there.

Hey, it's fine man. I just noticed you promoted yourself over and over in this forum and I had deleted a few of them. There's a sticky at the top of the forum asking not to do this and to take it in the specified forum, so this is why it's a little frustrating.

Keep posting, your welcome to do so. I wish more would join up and share their knowledge rather than post a few times and then leave because they just needed to promote themselves.
