Considering the thousands of drummers that have played Jazz, I believe 20 drummers from each period are concise. I could have really stretched it out and broken the two periods into even smaller sub-categories as Dixie, Swing, Big Band, Bop, Hard Bop, etc... In addition, given you 10-20 from each one.
An additional note. It's my understanding that Max Roach's health is not that well.

Hamid is my favorite of the younger drummers. However, he has been on the scene a couple decades by now. He barely comes behind Andrew Cyrille in my list. I have seen Drake at least a dozen times with several different groups, which he has played with over the years. The man is also an excellent reggae drummer as well.

Satchmo's list is great!
My favourite bop drummers are Philly Joe Jones, Roy Haynes and Elvin Jones.

A better question is just who would you replace with him in the Pre 60's list? And that's not mentioning about 100 others I didn't bring up. Since I was trying to be concise after all.

You really consider Elvin to be a bop drummer?
