Music Dates

Hello, I am new to this forum and I don't know anyone here, but I hope someone has the knowledge to help me.

I am currently building a music database with as much music as possible. This will eventually include EVERY song that exists in the known world (a very difficult project, i know. please don't criticize me on the impracticalities of it). The problem I am having is that whenever I upload music from the CD to my computer, I have to catagorize it manually. I am catagorizing everything by date and it is incredibly tedious to have to find the date when a song was released just to put it in a category.
Does anyone here know of a website or some other resource that I can very quickly and easily find the release dates of thousands of songs? I have just over 5000 songs already catagorized and am hesitant to upload any more because i have apr. 400 uncatagorized songs and it takes ALOT of time.
Thank you anyone for helping.

Good luck..but I suggest you have a jack installed directly into Reverend Rock's brain. He's averaging about three a day!

Oh, and no one is going to make fun of you for having the balls to take on something like that man, you're gonna get nothing but compliments from the people here.

Here's another idea: Buy the collected recordings of Willie Nelson. I believe you'll find them all there!

I put songs from my cds to my HD with the a program that came with dbPowerAmp (a musicconverting program). It's called DMC AUDIO CD INPUT. If your internet connection is up he automatically looks up the album's info and saves it. This contains artist, album, year of release, tracknumber and genre. The genre is often wrong, Iron Maiden is called rock or jazz (?!). Also if you have the remastered cd versions (like most old maidens) he will give the release date of the remastered cd. (so 1999 instead of 1981).

It is quite helpful, and most of the time the info is right (except for genre). It will surely take of some of the weight.

Because I tried to help, YOU have to keep me informed on your database... I respect people who have the balls to start such a mission....
GOOD LUCK!

So far the project isn't too hard. I'm building it mostly from oldest music to newest. I get the stuff that is already out and has been so i dont have to worry about that, then i continue to update it with and just work from the bottom up. So, I have over 5000 songs all before '85.

A big problem I have is that I got the Billboard Top 40 charts and those help quite a bit (although the page flipping is incredibly annoying) but they only have songs that made the Top 40. I also need info on ALL the songs that didn't even make Top 40 or even Top 100 (got that book too).
