One band that I never hear mentioned (( hell, I don't think I've even mentioned them until now )) is Amoeba -- their albums "Pivot" and "Watchful" are brilliant pieces of ambient rock (( that's the best way I can put it )) it's vaguely post-rock influenced, very lush, textured and soothing, but it also manages to carry a dark, gothic sensibility to it, with lovely vocals and acoustic guitar touches...it's not "soft-rock" by any means, but it is calming, melodic, and atmospheric...and quite beautiful.

I've said this before, i say it again, although the Second album wasn't great, the first Alien Ant Farm album, Anthology, was really great.
It worked well, it's one of the few modern metal albums i really appreciate. It had the melodrama and angst in it that made it edgy, and a lot of imagery, whether bull or actually meaning something.
good good.
