Yeah, he is just wonderful... I got into him like many have over the last few years by discovering him through that TV car commercial... Amazing how such a talent can slip through the cracks of fame and exposure...

He may be too mellow for some of the head bangers around here, but if you like folk rock he is as good as they come... (sort of like mid period Donovan, but without any hippie elements)...

I bought all three of his albums and each is a real treat...

That car commercial is what got me into his music too.

I prefer his first cd but they're all great. Each has its own unique style that's worth listening to.

Yes - check the avatar...

I've just got the newly released 4th official album, Made to Love Magic, which includes one 'lost' song that was discovered on an old tape and a lot of alternative versions of other material. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is new to Drake - start with Five Leaves Left, then Bryter Later, then Pink Moon, which is the order in which they were made.

There is a film about his life which was shown on the TV here in the UK a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure if it is available on DVD or video, but it is definitely worth seeing. There was also a BBC radio programme recently, narrated by Brad Pitt of all people, and although the programme itself is no longer available for streaming, the associated web pages are worth a look. Check http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/r2music/...ies/nickdrake/ .

Although of course Nick Drake could actually sing.

Drake was really part of the same English folk revival as John Martyn, John Renbourn, Bert Jansch (in Pentangle) and Sandy Denny and Fairport Convention, although more along the lines of John Martyn as a singer songwriter influenced by folk styles than the others, who did more with traditional material reinterpreted for a modern audience.

Yeah, I listened to that BBC documentary with Brad Pitt, and I thought it was pretty good... My favorite album is also Five Leaves Left, but Pink Moon is a close second.

The title "Five Leaves Left" is a reference to the papers he used to roll his cigarettes with, apparently once you get down to the last five, there is a notice "Five Leaves Left" to encourage you to go buy some more before you run out.

Also, the title "Five Leaves Left" refers to a short story by O. Henry, the guy who wrote The Gift of the Magi. The story is about a young woman who is sick and says that she will die by the time the last leaf falls from the plant outside her window. I won't spoil the ending for you, but I think it's a beautiful story and worth reading... Interesting because Nick Drake died five years after releasing this album.

Nick Drake was phenomenal... I think I'm in the minority when I say Bryter Layter is his best album, though. All three of his albums are pretty much essential, though.
