I went with the Strokes cos I know all of their music but I don't know much of Franz Ferdinand's music.
I really dig the Strokes though, I couldn't go past them, and I have both their albums so yeah they must be alright in my opinion lol.
Mind you, from what I have heard by Franz Ferdinand, pretty wicked, I must say. When I have heard a bit more I might consider getting the album. I really like "Take Me Out" but the video clip is freaky!!!!

The Strokes are better at this point. both bands are solid but Is This It? is the best album out of the three that these bands hav released so far. Franz Ferdinand's debut likely edges out Room On Fire, but its not on the same level as The Strokes debut.

the strokes began with huge potential, but imo they've failed to achieve anything interesting or new with room on fire. so franz for me

so, Franz Ferdinand get your vote because they havnt yet hada chance to disappoint you? thats like sayin you prefer The Sex Pistols to The Clash cos The Pistols never put out a bad album. Room On Fire was a solid album that was never going to be able to live up to expectations [Is This It? doesnt even live up to the hype really].

im just saying that franz ferdinand have me excited about their future, and the strokes don't, no need to lecture me. and remember that the sex pistols left a far greater legacy behind them than the clash ever did.

Legacy?????? The Sex Pistols were about an attitude, not a musical legacy. The Pistols also never accomplished much musically (never mind the bullocks is an over hyped, average record that most 60's garage bands could top). The Clash has left a lot more than The Sex Pistols ever did. You can't even compare the two musically.

its not about wether you liked it or not, its just that 'nevermind the bollocks' has an iconic status, whereas none of the clash's albums have. london calling is a brilliant record, but please don't kid yourself, joe bloggs won't know who the clash are whereas he will know the sex pistols. and on the point of comparing them musically, i can tell they have a very different sound but they were caught up in the same musical movement, much in the same way as the strokes and franz ferdinand.

I have to disagree, joe bloggs would know who the clash were over the sex pistols in a drop of a hat. I am a very musically person, and have been my whole life. I knew who the clash were way before I knew who the Sex Pistols were. Over the course of history, the music will outway the brief 20 mins. of fame the sex pistols enjoyed.
