Jerry Vale

Pardon my lack of knowledge but he doesn't sound like Jazz to me. I'm asking this because I was listening to one of his albums at a friends and he named it Jazz but it just doesn't sound like Jazz to me, so what is it?

I also liked what I heard so any advice as to Jerry Vale's best?

Jerry Vale was a lounge singer...a crooner. He's too nasal for my tastes and a bit stiff. He doesn't swing,IMHO,but that's just me. Vic Damone is closer to a jazz groove and was Big Frank's favorite of these cabaret guys. You must have some Italiano blood...I think Jerry was much loved by some of "the boys." I would put him in the same MORish boat with Bobby Vinton.

Yeah he reminds me of the singer from the Godfather, you know the Godson. I'm not Italian but I guess thats not stopping me. Vic Damone sounds interesting, any works of his you favor?

Can't remember anything specific that's "signature' Vic Damone...I just remember he made alot of appearances on TV variety shows and had alot of style. He must've had a good agent. Jack Jones and Buddy Grecco are two more singers of that era who did the same type stuff...but Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Bobby Darin were the best and in a seperate league,IMHO. Those three hit my jazz button for sure.

Jerry Vale is one of those singers that I haven't even developed a taste for as I've aged. He's just so very, very "vanilla"...I mean, I can dig Nat King Cole, Sinatra, Tony Bennett, even Andy Williams and Sammy Davis, Jr., but Jerry Vale is like, too far. He's one of the very few singers out there that I would simply have to call "square".
