OK, I'll bite. 'Too Much Too Young' by The Specials, January 1980. Arguably the most commercial and well-known band in the ska revival, The Specials had a clear political agenda but they were also representative of what I think was really the first new music and fashion movement since punk, even though it was a revival of an older Jamaican style. I was a little too young to be a 'rude boy' (and I couldn't afford a Harrington jacket anyway) but I remember plenty of older people in school who were, and man did they look sharp. At a time when most of my contemporaries still had long hair and Motorhead t-shirts, ska was a real kick in the arse.

Next?

k mr thom with the use of my handy dandy dell music jukebox ive heard that tune and uhmm ok its good. i dont know much about ska but i dig it, the doods sound like theyre drunk and jamming and having fun so thats rad. the only ska i know are rancid, like that tune 'time bomb' or no doubt . and altho ms steffani is a rad fashion guru and has inspired many socal new wave trends, im undecided. i think the newer ones sound tighter and more fun, cause at times the specials could get a little weird and boring.

Old ska is way way better, esp. The Specials. That song was about contraception or something too right? They were the Kings, without them Gwen Stefani or any of those other new artists probably wouldn't even be playing whatever shit they are now.
